Accessible Assisi Tour includes the accessible Basilica of Saint Francis and the main accessible highlights of the city.
Assisi is one of the most important cities for Christians and a timeless destination for pilgrims who wish to visit the places where Saint Francis was born, lived, and died.
Assisi is a charming hilltop town located on the slopes of Mount Subasio, where almost everything seems to be connected, directly or indirectly, to the life and legacy of Saint Francis.
Together with much of its surrounding territory, Assisi was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. The city was recognized as an outstanding example of historical continuity, from its Umbrian and Roman origins through the Middle Ages and up to the present day.
Among its most important monuments is the accessible Basilica of Saint Francis, one of the most significant religious and artistic sites in Italy and an important landmark for the Franciscan Order.
The Basilica is considered an extraordinary architectural complex that has had a significant influence on the development of European art and architecture. Construction began in 1228, shortly after the canonization of Saint Francis, and his remains have been preserved here since 1230.
The Basilica consists of two main levels. The Lower Basilica has a more intimate atmosphere and houses the tomb of Saint Francis, located beneath the main altar.
The Upper Basilica is famous for its magnificent frescoes, created by some of the most important artists of the late 13th and early 14th centuries, including Giotto.
Next to the Basilica of Saint Francis, you can also admire the Sacred Convent, which has been home to Franciscan friars for centuries.
With our Accessible Assisi Tour, you will have the opportunity to discover the main accessible highlights of the city.
