In Italy, the bride and the groom offer the “Bomboniera”. It is a special object and has a double meaning: on the one hand is a reminder of the wedding day spent together, on the other hand is a way to thank all the guests of their presence and their gifts. In a traditional Italian wedding, the delivery of the “bomboniere” usually takes place at the end of the reception, after the wedding cake. They should contain sugared almonds, usually five that signify the wishes for the couple: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity. Tucked into pretty boxes or tulle bags, these almonds are often personalized with the couple’s names and wedding date and are usually donated also for the celebration of wedding anniversaries.
