Santa Chiara Monastery Tour.
Half day duration with local guide.
Located in the historical center of Naples, via St. Clare, the complex is scattered within the Franciscan citadel and includes the Museum of the Archaeological Area, the Majolica Cloister and the Hall of Nativity dated 1700.
Monastery of St. Clare has over time become a symbol of Naples, thanks to the distinctive majolica decorations that characterizes it. Opened in 1995 in some quarters of the monastery it was originally occupied by the apartments of the nuns.
The Museum tells the story of the construction and development of art-historical Franciscan citadel. Inside are exhibited findings from the church, the cloister and the monastery. In particular, the rooms display the materials that survived the fire of 1943 that destroyed the church. The archaeological area is characterized by a spa building which overlaps the western rooms of the convent and small facilities. The building represents the most complete example of ancient Naples’ thermal baths documented and it’s chronologically placed in the period between the mid and the end of the first century a.C.
