In Rome, from July 5th, it will be forbidden to sit on the famous stairway of 135 steps of Trinità dei Monti, UNESCO heritage and most characteristic element of Piazza di Spagna: a new urban police regulation entered into force by the Capitol due to the behavioral excesses by some tourists on historical monuments.

In addition to the prohibition of eating near prestigious monuments, of drinking by clinging to the Roman “nasoni”, there is now a ban, “even just to sit”, to safeguard the monumental areas.

The square is guarded by police officers and the penalties provided vary between 160 and 400 euros.

Some people expressed their disappointment, others said they are favorable if it will help protecting the famous monument, which has always been a meeting place for the many tourists of Rome.
