The absolute protagonist of Neoclassicism in sculpture meets the capital of marble. The exhibition investigates the relationship between Antonio Canova and Carrara, bringing into dialogue five precious original plasters and documents preserved at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara, which this year celebrates the 250th anniversary of its foundation, with a spectacular multimedia tour dedicated to the exploration of the entire Canova affair. The exhibition develops in the splendid setting of the CARMI Museum until June 2020 through six rooms of strong emotional impact, in which precious works are exhibited such as the “Maddalena giacente”, one of the last Canovian chalks recently restored by the Carrara Academy of Fine Arts. From room to room, different languages meet, therefore, in a unique narrative that will lead the audience on a surprising journey into Canova’s mind, now witnessed with sculpture, now with documents and engaging film narration, offering a highly rigorous cultural experience.
