An ancient manuscript found in a Greek convent, the unknown memories of Galen, the clues left by the famous doctor of the emperors on his legendary scientific laboratory opened in Rome, and the intuition to start a deep excavation that brought to light unpublished pages of Roman history. This is the background to the archaeological undertaking in the heart of the Roman Forum, under  the Basilica of Massenzio, which investigate the exact place where Galen studied, created his pharmaceutical preparations, kept his books, practiced the trade. It is below a floor (removed to be restored) that the most suggestive structures have emerged at a depth of three meters. A gigantic nut of cement work that dates back to the Neronian age, which is a portion of the Domus Aurea where Nero was planning something even more imposing. And still below, a floor has emerged with a system of apses and niches in brick.  All this will be available by 2020 with a sophisticated museum display project of walkways and multimedia installations. Interesting, isn’t it? If you want to visit the Basilica of Massenzio and you’re looking for private services, such as private transfers and private tours, contact us at: info@romeanditaly.it
