After a smoker-free experience in Tokyo, Venice’s mayor, Luigi Brugnaro, is launching these days a campaign about smoking in a more responsible way. The initiative consists in making the central areas of Venice smoke-free, establishing instead particular places where it will be allowed, such as cafes and other public sites near the involved area. This new approach, together with the plan to provide portable ashtrays, minimizing the number of cigarette ends on the ground, is viewed by the major as a more respectful and healthy alternative for the city. A declared smoker, Brugnaro said he will give the right example in first place by lighting up his cigar only in those special sites.
