This walking tour has been designed to cover some of the most intere-sting sites of Rome, such as the Trevi Fountain.
This baroque fountain, designed in 1762 by Nicola Salvi, became fa-mous in Federico Fellini’s movie “La Dolce Vita”. It is also known for the legend of the three coins: throw three coins and make three wishes… It is believed that this act will ensure your return to the Eternal City. Originally a Roman stadium, Piazza Navona still retains its oval race-track shape. Embellished in Renaissance times with spectacular fountains and churches, followed by later additions of art galleries, outdoor restaurants and cafés, this piazza has become the animated centre of Rome’s day and night life. A square full of life and art. A place to admire and to relax. We move on and make our way through the alleys until we arrive to the Pantheon, one of the greatest and best preserved monuments of ancient Rome. Built by Agrippa in 27 B. C, the monument is a great example of architecture. Originally a Pagan Temple, it was turned into a Church in 609 by Pope Bonifacio IV. Our walk continues to Piazza Colonna where we admire the marble column built by the Roman Senate in memory of the Emperor Marco Aurelio. Then we proceed to the Spanish Steps, the hour glass-shaped square that is one of the most popular spots in the city, built in 1726 by Francesco De Sanctis. From the top of the stairs you will admire an unforgettable view of the Eternal City. At the end of the tour you will have free time for shopping in the famous streets surrounding Piazza di Spagna.

The Winter Line was a series of German military fortifications in Italy, constructed during World War II by Organisation Todt. The main line of fortification, called the Gustav Line, ran across Italy from just north of where the Garigliano River flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea in the west, through the Apennine Mountains to the mouth of the Sangro River on the Adriatic Sea in the east. The centre of the line, where it crossed the main route north to Rome (Highway 6) which followed the Liri valley, was anchored around the mountains behind the town of Cassino including Monte Cassino, which had an old abbey sitting atop it and which dominated the entrance to the Liri valley, and Monte Cairo which gave the defenders clear observation of any potential attackers. The Battle of Monte Cassino (also known as the Battle for Rome and the Battle for Cassino) was a costly series of four battles during World War II, fought by the Allies with the intention of breaking through the Winter Line and seizing Rome, the abbey of Montecassino was located on the peak of mountain, so was impossible for the alliance troops reach the site without completely destroy the abbey by bombing it.
