Santa Chiara Monastery Tour
Located in the historical center of Naples, via S. Clare, the complex is scattered within the Franciscan citadel and includes the Museum of the Archaeological Area, the Majolica Cloister and the Hall of Nativity dated 1700.
Monastery of St. Clare has over time become a symbol of Naples, thanks to the distinctiveMajolicatiled decoration that characterizes it. Opened in 1995 in some quarters of the monastery it was originally occupied by the flats of the nuns. The Museum tells the story of the construction and development of art-historical Franciscan citadel. Inside are exhibited founds from the church, the cloister and the monastery. In particular, the rooms display the materials survived to the fire of 1943 that instead destroyed the church. The archaeological area is characterized by a thermal building which overlapped the western rooms of the convent and small facilities. The building represents the most complete example of Naples spa documented and placed chronologically in the period between the middle and the end of the first century AD.
